Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups – or SIGs—are communities within a larger organization with a shared interest in advancing a specific area of knowledge, learning, or technology. Every year, the GIS-T Symposium supports SIG meetups, both technical and non-technical. SIGs are a great way to network with your peers and learn something new. So take advantage of having a community of like-minded colleagues all in the same place and reserve time to:

  • Form or join a small group of peers to explore a shared topic of interest
  • Show a documentary
  • Bring together federal and state partners from across the country
  • Present on a topic that didn’t fit on the Symposium agenda

New for GIS-T 2020!

Based upon feedback, the evening SIG time slot reservation has been discontinued for vendors. This time is still available for Federal and DOT led SIGs. Vendors are encouraged to reserve SIG time slots during the day. Please refer to vendor presentation guidelines for more information.

Guidelines

  • Approach your topic from a unique perspective to drive interest
  • Focus on a use case, partnership, or spotlight on an emerging/trending innovation
  • Share real stories with actionable solutions the audience can walk away with
  • Showcase subject-matter expertise
  • Include ‘intended audience’ in session submission to increase relevancy (i.e. GIS-Analyst, GIS Systems Administrator)
  • Submit practitioner speakers with titles relevant to the GIS-T Audience (provide examples)
  • Keep content vendor agnostic – this is not a sales pitch

Reservations

SIGs are available in 30, 60 or 90 minute time blocks and rooms are available on a first come first serve basis.
